I started out in hair 2008 after graduating high school and hair school, I went out into full service hair salon. Then, when the 2008 recession hit, I went into a Supercuts and worked my way up from stylist-to manager-to artistic trainer.
I was able to learn a lot and travel and work on all hair types. Then, I got back into full service salon and started renting out my own room at a "r" salon in Phoenix. I learned so much- as we had 60 stylists and all had our own way of doing hair and running business.
In 2019, I moved into my own salon suite and started the little shop of hairs. I was expecting my first child and I needed my own way of running things and scheduling. It was a great way to set up personal and professional boundaries. Then after I had my son, I only had four weeks off and I wish I gave myself more time out! You never know how your labor is going to go-and I was definitely not prepared for a fourth-degree tear!
My first day back I worked a ten-person wedding set up hair and makeup and pumped in the bathroom in between the ladies.
Then March of 2020 came, and we had to shut down as the state mandated. It was like the second Maternity leave. I got to be at home and grow with my son...see all the firsts. Of course, as a natural born hustler not being able to make income really hit me mentally hard. But, I was able to throw back my 2005 fashion merchandise classes-and I busted out my sewing machine making fabric masks. I made a lot for friends and family. When my husband's company saw his, and the custom fabrics, I made over 300 for them!
That kept me busy, but I definitely was glad when I could get back to work behind the chair. I love how good hair can make someone feel. We all know at that time mental health was hit hard -and if getting hair done could make you feel better-I was sure glad I could be the one to do that!
Now, I have moved my salon to northern Phoenix. In 2023, I had my second son. I gave myself six weeks after birth this go around - and thankful for that! I gave myself way more grace and space. I asked for help when needed- and it was a whole new world. Currently, I work two days a week, homeschool my five year old, and care for my 14 month old.
I’m so thankful for all my awesome clients and my family who helps me make this dream work!
